369 Bacolod cops deployed to secure SEABA qualifiers

BACOLOD CITY – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) has beefed up security operations as this highly urbanized city hosts the FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup Southeast Asia Basketball Association (SEABA) Qualifiers 2026 at STI-West Negros University Gym from June 2 to 6.
Starting Monday, 369 police personnel have been deployed to the games venue, billeting in hotels, and the Bacolod City Government Center grounds to ensure safe and secure staging of the international sports event.
Seeing action are teams from the Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia, which have started to arrive ahead of the opening ceremony on Tuesday.
City Administrator Mark Mayo said the city government is ensuring tight security for the event expected to draw 300 delegates from the five countries.
“We have very strict security. There are convoys from the airport and stand-by police personnel in hotels. Wherever the teams, the delegates will go, police officers will go with them,” he added.
In a statement, Mayor Greg Gasataya said hosting the FIBA U18 SEABA qualifiers advances the city government’s strategic agenda to establish Bacolod as the country’s premier center for sports tourism and development.
“Events of this magnitude generate direct economic benefits, especially for our local businesses and elevate our city’s national and global standing,” he added.
Gasataya thanked the Federation Internationale de Basketball (FIBA), the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, and the Philippine Sports Commission, headed by Chairperson Patrick Gregorio, for their confidence in Bacolod. (with PNA)
