A 17-year-old cyclist died after being struck by a car while crossing Marcos Highway in Antipolo City on Sunday night, May 31.

Antipolo police identified the driver as “Jayvee,” a resident of San Mateo, Rizal.

The incident occurred at around 10:10 p.m. near Vermont Royale Subdivision in Barangay Mayamot.

Initial investigation showed that the victim, identified as “Lance,” was riding his bicycle with two minor companions when they attempted to cross the highway.

Based on the statements of the two witnesses, vehicles in several lanes had stopped to allow them to cross.

However, when the victim reached the innermost lane, he was hit by an approaching car traveling along Marcos Highway toward Masinag Intersection.

Due to the impact, the victim was thrown about five meters from the point of collision.

He was rushed to Mambugan Hospital Annex IV but was declared dead on arrival.

Police said the driver will face a case of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
