Taguig LGU warns vs using jumpers, tampering with electricity meters

The Taguig local government warned residents against the dangers of using jumpers, or illegal electrical connections, and tampered electricity meters.

The warning came after investigators found that a jumper was the likely cause of the massive fire that left 489 families homeless in Barangay Sta. Ana on May 25.

“Isang spark lamang mula sa ilegal na koneksyon ay maaari na itong magdulot ng trahedyang makaaapekto sa daan-daang pamilya (Just one spark from the illegal connection can cause a tragedy that will affect hundreds of families),” it said.

It said jumpers and meter tampering also add to system losses that are borne by consumers who pay their electricity bills.

The Taguig City Government is coordinating with Meralco and other concerned agencies to immediately address reported cases of jumpers and meter tampering in communities.

It urged the public to report cases of jumpers and meter tampering to the Taguig Command Center at 0287893200.

“Bawal ang jumper. Delikado. Ilegal. Maaari itong magdulot ng sunog at panganib sa buong komunidad (Jumpers are prohibited. Dangerous. Illegal. They can cause fires and endanger the entire community),” it said.
