Quezon City has officially been named host of the 67th Palarong Pambansa, marking the return of the country’s premier national sporting event to the National Capital Region.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte formally accepted the hosting duties from Agusan del Sur Governor Santiago Cane Jr. during the ceremonial turnover at the closing rites of the 2026 Palarong Pambansa.
Belmonte described the hosting as a “full circle moment” for the city, noting that Quezon City last hosted the Palaro in 1966, the same year the Amoranto Stadium was inaugurated.
“The 2027 Palarong Pambansa is a full circle moment for our city. The last time that QC hosted the Palarong Pambansa was 1966, sixty years ago, coinciding with the inauguration of our Amoranto Stadium,” she said.
She added that Quezon City aims to deliver a “champion’s experience” for all participating student-athletes in 2027.
“Quezon City knows what it means to host greatness. And this is the experience that we want every Palaro athlete to carry with them in 2027,” the mayor said.
Belmonte also highlighted the city’s accessibility and role as a central hub connecting Filipinos from across the country, making it an ideal venue for a national gathering of young athletes.
Department of Education Secretary Sonny Angara and Undersecretary Malcolm Garma witnessed the turnover of the Palarong Pambansa banner.
Preparations are now underway, with the Quezon City government calling on residents to support and help welcome delegates from across the country in May 2027.
The hosting turnover also marks the return of the Palarong Pambansa to Metro Manila four years after Marikina City hosted the games in 2023.
