The Philippine National Police (PNP) has mobilized teams and resources to respond to the possible adverse effects of typhoon “Domeng” which was monitored to be threatening various areas in Northern Luzon.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. said all police units along the typhoon track were instructed to prepare—from possible evacuation support and rescue operations.
“The safety and welfare of all our kababayan in the affected areas are always the priority. Our personnel and resources on the ground were already mobilized for this purpose,” said Nartatez.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Domeng intensified into a typhoon on Saturday afternoon and was last spotted east of Northern Luzon. It was moving northwestward at a speed of 20 km/h.
As of 3 a.m., the center of the eye of Domeng was located 670 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.
Despite its expected exit, weather experts said the enhanced habagat will bring rains over several parts of western Philippines.
“Police offices in places which will be hit by Domeng are tasked to be on alert for its possible effects and to immediately respond to request and assistance of the people in coordination with the local government units,” Nartatez said.
Nartatez said police units remain on standby for possible evacuation support, rescue operations, and coordination with local government units.
He added that the PNP is also preparing for weather disturbances under the habagat season to ensure continuous public safety and rapid response in affected areas
