The National Capital Region ruled the Palarong Pambansa once again after securing its 19th straight overall championship at the conclusion of the annual grassroots tournament Sunday, May 31.
NCR collected 91 gold, 71 silver, and 71 bronze medals from both the elementary and secondary levels.
CALABARZON secured second place, tallying 55 gold, 50 silver, and 60 bronze medals, while Davao Region settled for third with 34-32-34.
Central Visayas, with just two golds separating them, finished fourth with 32-30-44, followed by Western Visayas in fifth with 31-36-45.
Powered by FEU Diliman, the Metro Stars capped their campaign with NCR’s final gold coming from secondary boys’ football, edging Western Visayas, 1-0, on Saturday, May 31.
NCR hit a gold mine in the swimming events, with secondary standout Patricia Mae Santor becoming the most bemedalled athlete with seven mints.
Swimmers Jamesray Mishael Ajido and Ashton Clyde Jose bagged five and four golds, respectively, while gymnast Tchelzy Mei Maayo also contributed four gold medals for the Big City.
NCR also successfully defended its secondary girls’ volleyball crown, rallying past Negros Island Region, 22-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-18, to retain the title.
CALABARZON got most of its medals from the elementary division with 24 golds, 18 silvers, and 25 bronzes, with Charles Nathan Boneo taking six golds in swimming, including a record-breaking 27.77-second finish in the elementary boys’ 50-meter butterfly which surpassed the 26-year-old mark of 28.03 set by Ronald Guiriba in 2000.
The Metro Stars emerged as the top performers in the secondary division, amassing 73 gold, 51 silver, and 50 bronze medals.
The Caraga Region, bannered by host province Agusan del Sur, finished the meet with 30 gold, 19 silver, and 48 bronze medals.
For the para games, Western Visayas topped the field with a 21-25-15 haul, Negros Island Region following suit with 15-6-5, and CALABARZON completing the Top 3 with 12-13-7.
Moving forward, Quezon City will serve as the next host in 2027.
