BACOLOD CITY – Police arrested two men for allegedly robbing a female doctor in Barangay 19 here Thursday.
The first suspect, Rem, 37, of Barangay 40, this city, was apprehended at 9 p.m. in the barangay hall on Saturday, May 30, through a coordinated operation led by Police Station 1 together with the victim.
The other suspect Shan, 32, of Barangay Cabug here, was caught at 1:20 a.m. on Sunday, May 31, through a joint operation by the Police Station 1 and City Intelligence Unit. Recovered from him were a motorcycle and two cellphones.
Mayor Greg Gasataya and the BCPO offered a P200,000 reward for the suspects’ arrest.
A video of the crime showing the victim trying to resist the suspects who forcibly took her bag at gunpoint while she was about to enter the gate of her boarding house went viral on social media.
The victim who had just arrived from a day-long duty, was injured and lost her cellphone for work.
The BCPO assured the public of swift police response, intensified follow-up operations, and the immediate resolution of criminal cases.
Gasataya said the city government is fully supportive of the efforts of the BCPO to ensure that justice is served and communities remain safe.
To further strengthen the city's peace and order campaign, Gasataya and Police Col. Eugene Rebadomia, Bacolod police director, urged people to immediately report emergencies and criminal incidents through the emergency hotline system.
The mayor said that the city is awaiting final clearance for the localized implementation of the Unified 911 Emergency Response System, which is part of the Philippine National Police's efforts to strengthen emergency response capabilities throughout the Negros Island Region (NIR).
Gasataya said that the city has completed necessary preparations, including personnel training, communications equipment, Information Technology (IT) requirements, software installation, and the establishment of an operations center. "What we are waiting for is the certification to go live and the final instruction from the DILG," he said.
