DIADI, Nueva Vizcaya – A man was arrested for shooting and killing his neighbor’s dog with an air gun in Purok 6, Barangay Bugnay, this town, on Thursday, May 28.
Police said the dog owner, a 42-year-old widow and businesswoman, saw the suspect enter their compound and shoot her pet dog. The dog died on the spot from a bullet wound.
Responding lawmen discovered the dog already dead with a visible bullet wound.
Police launched a hot pursuit operation with the complainant and barangay officials and found the suspect in his house.
The suspect was arrested and admitted shooting the dog in retaliation after it entered his farm and bit one of his goats. He voluntarily surrendered the air gun.
The dog owner filed a complaint before the Diadi Municipal Police Station against the suspect for violating Republic Act 8485, or the Animal Welfare Act, as amended by Republic Act 10631.
Police documented the air gun in the presence of a barangay official and the suspect.
The suspect and air gun were brought to the Diadi Municipal Police Station for documentation.
Police reminded people that cruelty and maltreatment of animals are punishable under the Animal Welfare Act.
