The show must go on for Alex Eala.
After concluding her clay court season with an early exit at the French Open, Eala shifts her focus on the grass swing as she takes part in the WTA 125 Birmingham Open slated June 1 to 7 in Great Britain.
Eala, who eyes to better her outing in the meet after bowing in Round of 32 to Czech Linda Fruhvirtova, 5-7, 7-1, 1-6, in the last year’s edition, enters as the second high-ranked player at No. 42.
She and fellow Southeast Asian bet in Janice Tjen of Indonesia (No. 40) starred in the field that also includes German Tatjana Maria (No. 54), Croatian Antonia Ruzic (No. 59), American Talia Gibson (No. 62), and Kiwi Lulu Sun (No. 107), to name a few. Greet Minnen will not be defending her title.
This would be a great opportunity for the Filipina tennis ace as she transitioned to grass and its big competitions, mainly the 2026 Wimbledon Championships on June 29 to July 12.
Once her mission at Birmingham is finished, the charming lefty is anticipated to join the WTA 500 HSBC Championships which gets going from June 8 to 14 in London.
Then she is bound for Germany after earning a wild card berth at the WTA 500 Bad Homburg Open slated June 21 to 27 in Germany. She joins hometown bet Eva Lys and former world No. 1 and seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams.
The list also has former champion No. 23 Diana Shnaider, as well No. 22 Canadian Leylah Fernandez, No. 17 Iva Jovic, No. 8 Mirra Andreeva, and No. 10 Czech Karolina Muchova, to name a few.
Eala was fresh from a first-round defeat against Jovic, 6-4, 6-2, at the French Open. She and Victoria Mboko, however, withdrew their opening match in the doubles against Leylah Fernandez and Shnaider.
