Carnival worker killed in Leyte road crash

TACLOBAN CITY – A 25-year-old carnival worker was killed and 11 others were injured when their cargo truck overturned in Barangay Tolibao, Capoocan, Leyte on Friday.
Investigation said that the vehicle driven by Asong, 38, was transporting carnival equipment from Barangay Libertad to the town proper when he was allegedly distracted by a motorcycle in a sharp descending curve.
Moments later, the truck reportedly experienced a brake malfunction and swerved into the opposite lane and overturned.
Eleven passengers, including four minors, were thrown onto the grassy roadside, while others were trapped inside the vehicle.
The victims were taken to hospitals.
Asong and a passenger, Osing, 25, from Barangay Balud, Capoocan, were taken to the Carigara District Hospital, where Osing was declared dead.
Authorities said one victim was referred to the Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVMC) here for advanced treatment while the rest remain confined at Carigara District Hospital.
