A 48-year-old mother with a visual disability has been named the Gawad Ulirang Ina 2026 winner in Muntinlupa.
Jenny Villarama, representing Barangay Tunasan, was proclaimed champion during the awarding ceremony held on May 28.
Despite her disability, Villarama pursued her dreams and dedicated 13 years as a volunteer teacher and administrative assistant at the Bukas Loob sa Diyos Catholic Charismatic Community–Poverty Alleviation Ministry.
Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon led the ceremony, describing mothers as society’s “source of strength.”
“Bawat isa sa atin ay may kanya-kanyang nanay at lahat iyan sa atin ay the best nanay. Para po sa pangkalahatan, ang pagpugay na binibigay natin sa lahat ang dahilan ng isinasagawa nating activity every month of May (Each of us has our own mother and all of them are the best mothers. In general, the tribute we give to all is the reason for the activities we carry out every month of May),” Biazon said.
Other finalists included Zenaida Restor (Barangay Poblacion), Estrella Tabuco (Barangay Putatan), Nieves Jover (Barangay Bayanan), Cristina Magno (Barangay Alabang), Judith Dejan (Barangay Cupang), Imelda Arciaga (Barangay Buli), and Teodora Anida (Barangay Sucat).
Each of the eight mothers received ₱40,000 in cash.
As the grand winner, Villarama received an additional ₱20,000, a trophy, and an overnight stay at The Bellevue Manila hotel in Alabang.
