PBBM hints at more appointments for losing 2025 candidates
President Marcos has hinted at more government appointments involving candidates who lost in the 2025 elections following the lapse of the one-year appointment ban.
Speaking to Manila-based reporters in Tokyo, the President said the administration remains open to appointing qualified candidates who failed to win public office but could still contribute to government service.
“Possibly, possibly,” the President said on Friday, May 29, when asked if more appointments could be expected in the coming days.
“Kasi nga nag-lapse na ‘yung one-year ban for candidates that did not make it in the last election (Because the one-year ban for candidates who did not win in the last election has already lapsed),” he added.
‘Best talent’
Marcos said many candidates who lost in the elections still possess the skills and experience needed in government.
“Marami namang magagaling diyan (There are many capable people there). I'm not talking just the senatorial candidates,” he said.
“Maraming iba na tumakbo for whatever position na sa palagay ko magagaling at makakapag-contribute sa pamahalaan (There are many others who ran for different positions whom I believe are capable and can contribute to government),” he added.
The President said the administration should maximize available talent.
“Sayang naman (That would be a waste). We have to get the best talent that we can,” he said.
“So yes, that's a natural progression,” he added.
Marcos’ remarks came days after the appointment of former senator Francis Tolentino as acting secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
Tolentino ran for reelection in the 2025 senatorial race under the administration-backed Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas slate but failed to secure another term.
Malacañang earlier said Marcos believes Tolentino is capable of leading the labor department because of his extensive experience in local and national government service.
