TUAÑO (Tara Yap)
ILOILO CITY – Police Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño is prioritizing the release of information, particularly to the media, as new Police Regional Office-6 (Western Visayas) chief.
“Under my leadership as acting regional director, PRO-6 remains committed to strengthening transparency, accountability, and meaningful partnership with the media in Western Visayas,” said Tuaño, former Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson.
“The timely release of accurate information is essential in maintaining public trust and preventing misinformation,” added Tuaño, who replaced Police Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan.
Tuaño encouraged chiefs of police and unit commanders in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo provinces as well as the regional capital of Iloilo City to release timely information to mediamen.
“Having previously served as a PNP spokesperson, I deeply value the important role of the media in public service and in keeping our communities informed,” said Tuaño.
Some police chiefs in the region were at times inaccessible or refused to give statements to the media, especially on high profile crimes.
“Even while details are still being validated, personnel are encouraged to provide prompt acknowledgment or initial updates whenever possible. Such responsiveness promotes openness, trust, mutual respect, and continued professionalism in our engagement with media partners in service to the public,” added Tuaño.
Tuaño engaged with members of the Iloilo Police and Defense Press Corps this week and held his first press briefing as PRO-6 regional director last May 25.
