ZAMBOANGA CITY – The military on Friday confirmed the death of two trainees – one from Basilan province – during training in Tarlac.
In a statement, the School for Candidate Soldier, Initial Military Training Group Training Command, Philippine Army “confirms the unfortunate passing of two trainees of CSC Class 806-2026 during the conduct of military training.”
However, their cause of death was not disclosed.
The Philippine Army said they uphold policies that prohibit any form of violence, maltreatment, or abuse in military instruction and training activities.
It said that a thorough and impartial investigation is being conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
The family and friends of the recruit from Basilan, Junel Flores, are demanding justice following his death on Tuesday, May 26. Flores left for Tarlac on May 19 to train and take his oath.
He collapsed while training and did not recover. His family has sought an investigation after bruises and marks on his body were discovered.
