Louis Vuitton 2027 cruise collection presents a dialogue between fashion and art, and New York and Paris

There is beauty in duality. Contrasting elements make for interesting results. Merging eras produces something nostalgic yet new. In fashion, unexpected pairings create striking style moments.

That is exactly what Louis Vuitton presented through its Cruise 2027 collection, a creative duet between two cities and art. For the upcoming season, Nicolas Ghesquière, artistic director of women’s collections, forged a connection between the distinct identities and realities of Paris and New York. The result is a collection that serves as an amalgamation of uptown and downtown, past and future.

To mirror the collection’s sense of duality, the luxury brand chose The Frick Collection along Central Park in New York City as the venue for its runway show. An icon of the city during the Gilded Age, the renowned art museum and research institution has long been home to French decorative arts in the US, making it the perfect setting for the collection. This was the first runway show ever held at the location and marked the beginning of a three-year cultural partnership between Louis Vuitton and the Fifth Avenue museum.
On May 20, the salons of The Frick Collection set the stage for the fashion presentation. Gracing the runway were pieces that celebrated American style framed through French savoir-faire. In creating the collection, the maison looked to its archives for inspiration and discovered a 1930s leather suitcase radically reworked into a literal canvas by American contemporary artist Keith Haring.
On the runway, Keith Haring’s iconic characters adorned dresses, tops, and bags, honoring his distinct artistic language and legacy. Overalls were rolled down and tied at the waist, paired with trompe-l’œil pants, while bomber jackets were styled over boxing shorts before transitioning into eveningwear. Billowing sleeves were complemented by elaborate cascading ruffles, while floral mini capes and hats added a theatrical touch to a Cruise collection where contemporary creativity resonated with history and artistic beauty.
The spirit of contemporary art and duality also extended to the beauty looks. Cosmetics creative director Pat McGrath captured both the refinement of Paris and the downtown cool of New York, ranging from natural sweeps of pigment to concentrated pops of plum using the La Beauté Louis Vuitton universe.
Ultimately, Louis Vuitton 2027 cruise collection is less about defining a single aesthetic and more about embracing contradiction as a form of expression. It moves effortlessly between structure and spontaneity, heritage and experimentation, restraint and excess, reflecting the many identities that shape contemporary fashion today.
