A 68-year-old farmer was shot dead during a dispute over mangoes in Barangay Buenavista, Santa Maria, Isabela on Friday, May 29.
Police identified the victim as Nerissa.
Investigation said suspect Mario, 51, confronted the victim and two companions for gathering mangoes in his property.
A heated argument erupted where the suspect shot the victim in the chest. She died on the spot.
The suspect fled aboard a motorcycle and was arrested in a follow-up operation in Sitio Pata, Barangay Buenavista.
Recovered from the suspect was a caliber 9mm pistol.
The victims’ companions were unharmed. They failed to immediately report the incident because they had to walk a considerable distance to reach the house of a barangay captain.
The gun recovered from the suspect is being investigated after its serial number showed it belonged to the Philippine National Police.
Authorities said the suspect and victim had a long-standing dispute over the boundary of their properties.
Follow-up investigation is ongoing. Responding operatives were cited for their swift action.
