3 car 'rent-tangay' suspects tracked in Cavite via GPS device
CAVITE – Authorities arrested three suspects involved in what the police called “rent-tangay” modus (rent-and-steal scheme) in Dasmariñas City, Thursday evening, May 28.
The Cavite Police Provincial Office (Cavite PPO) identified the suspects as alias Ellie, alias Jemuel, and alias Marky.
Initial investigation showed the suspects rented a car in Lipa City, Batangas, from the complainant, a police officer.
The suspects were supposed to return the car by May 27, but they failed to do so.
On May 28, the complainant got information that the car was reportedly being pawned without his consent.
By monitoring the vehicle's global positioning system (GPS) device, the complainant was able to track the car in Dasmariñas City.
Upon arrival in the area, the complainant caught the suspects in the act of negotiating to pawn the car to a third party who was unaware that it had only been rented by the suspects.
Alias Marky reportedly facilitated the transaction.
The complainant immediately effected the arrest of the suspects.
Responding personnel of the Dasmariñas Component City Police Station (Dasmariñas CCPS), meanwhile, arrived at the scene, took custody of the suspects, and recovered the evidence.
The three suspects are facing estafa charges.
