Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) partnered with B.League for the B.League Finals Week Manila, held from May 21 to 24 at the SM Megamall Mega Fashion Hall.
The four-day event brought Japanese basketball closer to Filipino fans and formed part of activities recognizing the 70th anniversary of Japan-Philippines diplomatic relations. Toyota’s participation centered on youth sports development, with basketball serving as the main link between the Japanese professional league and young Filipino athletes.
Toyota presented the B.Hope Asia Jr. Clinic on May 23. The clinic gave children of different skill levels the chance to learn from professional B.League players through basketball instruction, skills work, and on-court participation.
Kiefer Ravena of the Yokohama B-Corsairs joined the clinic as guest coach. His presence gave young participants direct exposure to a Filipino player competing in Japan’s professional basketball league.
Elijah Marcial, First Vice President for Vehicle Sales Operations of TMP, said Toyota’s participation was part of its support for Filipino athletes and local sports development.
“Toyota has long been committed to supporting our Filipino athletes and the growth of our local sports scene. Through our Start Your Impossible campaign, we were able to support Olympic gold medallist gymnast Carlos Yulo’s advocacy of children’s growth and development, as we partnered with him to hold a gymnastics clinic for children. Through the same campaign, Para Swimmer Ernie Gawilan’s advocacy of cleaner water was supported by TMP through our participation in coastal cleanups and mangrove plantings throughout the whole country,” Marcial said.
She added that the basketball clinic followed Toyota’s previous support for Philippine basketball.
“The B.Hope Asia Jr Clinic is not the first time Toyota has supported Philippine basketball as TMP also supported Gilas Pilipinas as their official mobility partner for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. Our support for the upcoming B.Hope Asia Jr. Clinic is another testament of our standing commitment in supporting our grassroots athletes and the development of Philippine sports,” she added.
Toyota also had a booth at the venue, where guests viewed the brand’s latest vehicle lineup. Visitors also took part in interactive games with prizes during the event.
