Tourism contributed 8.1% to Philippine economy in 2025—PSA
Tourism contributed 8.1 percent to the Philippine economy in 2025, although the industry’s direct contribution to economic output slightly declined from a year ago, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The PSA reported on Thursday, May 28, that tourism direct gross value added (TDGVA) at current prices amounted to ₱2.27 trillion last year, down by 1.4 percent from ₱2.3 trillion in 2024.
TDGVA refers to the portion of gross value added (GVA) generated by industries directly providing goods and services to visitors.
The tourism sector’s share to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) also eased from the revised 8.7 percent in 2024 and 8.4 percent in 2023.
Despite the decline in TDGVA, tourism-related spending continued to grow in some segments.
Outbound tourism expenditure posted the highest annual growth of 3.5 percent, reaching ₱357.93 billion in 2025.
Domestic tourism expenditure also increased by three percent, rising to ₱3.26 trillion last year from ₱3.16 trillion in 2024.
Internal tourism expenditure, which combines inbound and domestic tourism spending, inched up by 1.2 percent to ₱3.96 trillion in 2025 from ₱3.91 trillion in the previous year.
Also, the PSA said tourism-related employment expanded last year.
Employment in tourism industries was estimated at 7.7 million in 2025, up 2.5 percent from 7.51 million in 2024.
The tourism sector accounted for 15.7 percent of total employment in the country last year, improving from the revised 15.4 percent in 2024 and 14.4 percent in 2023.
