Remulla, Ejercito tackle political tension at Flag Day rites in Imus
“Labanan natin ang kasamaan, labanan natin ang korapsyon. Labanan natin ang 13 nagpapanggap na sinasabi nilang sila ang may-ari ng katotohanan (Let us fight wrongdoing, let us fight corruption. Let us fight the 13 individuals pretending that they alone hold the truth).”
The DILG secretary encouraged the public to use social media to fight for the truth.
“Spread it across all your social media platforms. Leave comments and let everyone know that Imus does not back down from a fight and that we stand with the truth,” he added.
Ejercito, meanwhile, likened the recent developments at the Senate to Netflix and telenovelas.
“Kinakailangan lang siguro, magbigayan, magkausap. Minsan kinakailangan, isantabi mo ang sarili mong interes alang alang sa kapakanan ng bayan (What is needed, perhaps, is for people to compromise and communicate with one another. Sometimes, you have to set aside your personal interests for the good of the nation),” the senator said.
“Sa totoo lang, napakahirap tanggihan ‘nung inalok po sa akin maging majority floor leader ng Senado, ang isa sa pinakamakapangyarihang posisyon sa Senado. Ngunit sabi ko,’yung posisyon ba o prinsipyo ang akin pong tinimbang. At siyempre nanaig sa atin po ang prinsipyo at paniniwala (To be honest, it was very difficult to turn down the offer for me to become the Senate majority floor leader, one of the most powerful positions in the Senate. But I asked myself what should weigh more: the position or my principles. Of course, in the end, principles and conviction prevailed).”
Also present during the event were the guest of honor, Gov. Francisco Gabriel “Abeng” Remulla, National Historical Commission of the Philippines Chair Regalado Trota Jose Jr., Cavite 3rd District Rep. Adrian Advincula, Mayor Alex Advincula, Vice Mayor Homer Saquilayan, and other local officials.
May 28 marks the anniversary of the Battle of Alapan and National Flag Day, honoring the bravery of Filipino revolutionaries in their fight against Spanish forces and remembering the historic first unfurling of the Philippine flag in 1898.
The observance also signals the start of the National Flag Days celebration, which continues until Independence Day on June 12.
