THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-Negros Island Region releasing P5,000 fuel subsidy to 2,510 transportation network vehicle services (TNVS) drivers and delivery riders in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental on Thursday, May 28. (DSWD-NIR)
BACOLOD CITY – More than 2,500 transportation network vehicle service (TNVS) and delivery service company drivers in Bacolod City and neighboring local government units started receiving P5,000 cash relief assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Negros Island Region (DSWD-NIR) on Thursday.
The two-day payout at SM City Bacolod covered 1,510 recipients on Thursday from the cities of Bacolod, Bago, Talisay, Silay, Victorias, and La Carlota, as well as the municipalities of Don Salvador Benedicto, Murcia, EB Magalona, Valladolid, San Enrique, and Pontevedra. The remaining 1,000 recipients, all from Bacolod, are scheduled for Friday.
DSWD-NIR said the financial assistance aims to provide immediate relief to eligible TNVS and delivery drivers to help augment their daily expenses and support their families amid rising transportation and living costs.
"The CRA forms part of the government's continuing efforts to support vulnerable transport and delivery workers who continue to provide essential mobility and delivery services to the public despite economic challenges," the agency added.
Mayor Greg Gasataya here said the list of beneficiaries came from the DSWD central office in Manila.
Gasataya assured that the city government has noted the discrepancy and proactively coordinating with the DSWD to address the issue.
He said they requested a thorough verification of their master list and during the review, it was discovered that the roster of beneficiaries for Bacolod City and NIR was mistakenly merged with the list for Region 6.
To rectify this, DSWD-NIR has extracted and sorted the exact data for the city, expediting the process to ensure the rightful inclusion of all eligible drivers.
“We understand the concerns regarding the initial list of beneficiaries for TNVS and delivery service drivers in Bacolod City, which inadvertently excluded those affiliated with Grab Philippines/MyTaxiPH,” he said.
“We recognize how vital this financial assistance is to our people's daily livelihood and families. We respectfully ask for continued patience as we coordinate with DSWD-NIR to complete the necessary corrections to their database,” the mayor said.
In view of concerns regarding drivers who were not included in the current list of beneficiaries, the DSWD-NIR is closely coordinating with the concerned TNVS and service delivery companies.
The DSWD-NIR has advised the Transport Network Companies (TNCs) to coordinate directly with the DSWD Central Office for the rectification of tagging concerns and to facilitate the submission and verification of additional eligible drivers for possible inclusion in the succeeding payout schedules.
