BACOLOD CITY – The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) reported a 27 percent decrease in total crime incidents in the region in the first quarter of this year.
The Crime Incident Reporting and Analysis System (CIRAS) said 2,842 incidents were recorded from January to March 2025, compared to 2,086 in the same period this year, a difference of 756 cases.
The PRO-NIR said that the region’s peace and order indicator similarly decreased by 20.93 percent, from 1,873 to 1,481 incidents.
This covers the provinces of Negros Occidental, including this highly-urbanized city, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor.
Index crimes or crimes against person or property dropped by 19.85 percent from 272 to 218, while non-index crimes or violation of special laws decreased by 21.11 percent from 1,601 to 1,263.
The eight focus crimes had a substantial 28.03 percent decline, from 2,740 to 1,972, and the public safety indicator, which include traffic accidents, dropped sharply by 34.37 percent from 969 to 636.
The eight focus crimes are murder, homicide, theft, robbery, rape, physical injuries, carnapping, and motorcycle theft.
The PRO-NIR attributed these positive outcomes to strategic and sustained police initiatives, enhanced intelligence operations, and strengthened police presence in key areas.
It also underscored the effective partnership with local government units, barangay officials, and community in improving information sharing and reinforcing crime prevention measures.
