Last day of Shari'ah Bar Exams today, May 27, in 4 testing centers
About 800 aspiring Muslim lawyers will be back to four testing centers at 8 a.m. today, Wednesday, May 27, for the second and last day of the 2026 Shari’ah Special Bar Examinations (SSBE).
The examinations are being conducted in four testing centers – New Era University (NEU) in Quezon City, Ateneo de Davao University, Ateneo de Zamboanga University, and Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT).
Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justice Henri Jean Paul B. Inting, chairperson of the 2026 SSBE, said that the examinations are both in English and Arabic.
The SC’s Office of the Spokesperson said that last Sunday, May 24, a total of 45 examinees took the tests in Arabic while 755 took them in English.
Today’s examinations will be on Succession, Wills/Adjudication, and Settlement of Estates in the morning, and Procedure in Shari’ah Courts in the afternoon.
Last Sunday, the examinees were tested on Jurisprudence (Fiqh) and Customary Law (Adat), and on Persons, Family Relations, and Property.
Justice Inting said that during the past Shari’ah Bar Exams, examinees who chose to take the test in Arabic were assigned to only a limited testing center.
As the number of Arabic-proficient examinees grew, the SC introduced a more localized and regionalized system to make the exams easier to access, he also said.
Associate Justice Jose Midas P. Marquez will be the chairperson of the 2027 SSBE.
SC justices were present at the NEU, the national headquarters of the examinations, and other testing centers.
Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo visited the NEU together with Associate Justices Alfredo Benjamin S. Caguioa and Raul B. Villanueva.
At MSU-IIT, Justice Inting, 2026 SSBE Bar Consultant Associate Justice Japar B. Dimaampao, and 2027 SSBE Chairperson Justice Marquez were present. SC Senior Associate Justice Marvic M.V.F. Leonen was at the MSU-IIT last Sunday afternoon.
Associate Justice Antonio T. Kho, Jr. observed the examinations at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University.
Last Sunday’s welcome breakfast at MSU-IIT was attended by Court of Appeals Associate Justices Anisah B. Amanodin-Umpa, who also served as 2026 SSBE vice chairperson, and Edilwasif T. Baddiri, president of the Philippine Muslim Judges Association (PMJA).
Also present were Regional Court Manager for Judicial Region XII Nadjera A.Alyasa-Botawan, PMJA officers, members of the academe led by MSU-IIT Chancellor Alizedney Ditucalan, and representatives from the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos.
The program was hosted by SC Chief Communications Officer Michael Jobert I. Navallo.
