When Ferrari Challenge Europe gets underway at Le Mans this June, a Filipino driver will be on the grid. Jose Antonio "Juha" Turalba, the reigning SEAOIL Radical Challenge Philippines SR1 Champion, will compete under Emil Frey Racing in Ferrari's 700-horsepower 296 Challenge – a moment that is quietly one of the more significant milestones in Philippine motorsports in recent memory.
Ferrari Challenge Europe is Ferrari's official continental championship and is widely regarded as the most competitive regional Ferrari series in the world, with professional teams and elite amateur drivers racing at marquee venues throughout the season. The Ferrari 296 Challenge is purpose-built for the series, capable of exceeding 300 km/h on circuit.
Built on results
Turalba's path to Europe was methodical. He began as an Asian karting champion, stepped away to pursue degrees in aerospace and mechanical engineering, and returned to competitive racing in the Philippines with clear intentions. In 2023, he won the Mazda Miata Spec Series Championship. In 2025, he captured the SEAOIL Radical Challenge Philippines SR1 title and Rookie of the Year honors, winning nine of eleven races in what is currently considered the fastest circuit racing series in the country.
Those results, combined with strong performances driving Ferraris at international events, were noticed by Ferrari racing personnel and instructors. His technical feedback and data-driven approach to car setup were factors that helped open the door to a program with Emil Frey Racing, one of Europe's most established professional racing organizations.
What the campaign looks like
The debut at Le Mans runs June 10 to 13. While Turalba won’t be competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans itself, he’ll be racing on the Circuit de la Sarthe during Le Mans week, in Ferrari Challenge support races held alongside the headline event.
After Le Mans, the campaign continues at the Algarve International Circuit in Portimão, Portugal (July 16 to 19), then the Hungaroring in Budapest, Hungary (September 10 to 13), before wrapping up at Ferrari Finali Mondiali in Barcelona, Spain (November 18 to 22), Ferrari's annual world championship event that brings together teams and drivers from its global motorsport programs.
A driver with a unique profile
Beyond the racing, Turalba is an FAA-certified helicopter pilot and Vice President for Sales and Marketing at Active Group, a Philippine real estate developer. That technical and aviation background influences how he approaches the sport.
"My engineering background affects how I understand racing," he said. "I think deeply about the car, the data, the feedback, and the small adjustments that make a difference. Racing is emotional, but it is also highly technical."
He also speaks to a broader point about Filipino representation in international motorsports.
"Filipino drivers have the talent, discipline, and intelligence to compete internationally," Turalba said. "What we need are more opportunities, more visibility, and more pathways."
His 2026 Ferrari Challenge Europe campaign is one of those pathways in motion, and it starts at one of the most iconic locations in the sport.
