Two individuals were injured when a trailer truck loaded with garbage overturned along the southbound lane of the C5-Bonny Serrano Tunnel in Quezon City shortly after 5 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, prompting the temporary closure of the tunnel and the rerouting of motorists.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) immediately deployed responders and heavy equipment, including a forklift and tow truck, to the area as traffic was managed and clearing operations were conducted.
Based on MMDA report, the truck was traveling from Porac, Pampanga and was en route to Batangas to deliver its garbage cargo when the incident occurred.
The truck driver said the vehicle skidded on the wet road inside the tunnel, causing him to lose control despite attempts to straighten the steering wheel and apply the brakes before the trailer toppled.
Two of the three occupants of the truck were injured in the incident.
The driver sustained a wound on his right elbow, while his wife suffered one on her right eyebrow. The truck helper was unharmed.
At around 6:29 a.m., MMDA Forklift 1 and Tow Truck No. 1 arrived at the scene to assist in the removal of the overturned vehicle.
By 7:47 a.m., authorities had managed to upright the truck, although the southbound lane of the tunnel remained closed as clearing operations continued.
