BACOLOD CITY – A 23-year-old woman and her one-year-old son were killed and seven family members were injured after a truck crashed into their house in Purok Super L, Barangay Pandanon, Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental on Monday, May 25.

Police Major Ellendie Rebusquillo, Don Salvador Benedicto police chief, said the vehicle was traveling downhill when it allegedly experienced a brake malfunction.

The driver turned off the engine to stop the vehicle but he lost control and panicked and was unable to properly maneuver through the curved road, Rebusquillo said.

The truck rammed and destroyed the house of the victims, including three minors, who were having lunch.

Rebusquillo said the toddler died on the spot while his mother was declared dead in a hospital.

Three of the injured victims were in critical and four others sustained minor injuries.

The 58-year-old truck driver is under police custody.

Lawmen are awaiting the decision of the victims' family if they will press charges.
