Motorcyclist killed, several hurt in 10-vehicle crash in Rizal

A motorcycle rider was killed while several others sustained injuries after a massive road crash involving 10 vehicles along Mayon Avenue in Barangay San Jose, Rodriguez, Rizal, on Monday night, May 25.

Police said the incident happened at around 8 p.m. when a truck loaded with sacks of cement reportedly suffered brake failure while traveling downhill toward Kasiglahan Village.

The truck gained speed and first hit two AUVs. It then struck an SUV, a sedan, a passenger mini bus, and another modern jeepney.

Due to the impact, the SUV was pushed forward and hit a motorcycle, trapping its driver underneath.

The motorcycle rider, identified only as “Marson,” died on site.

Police said the sedan also hit a tricycle, which then struck a van before colliding with a passenger mini bus.

Several passengers, including the drivers of the tricycle and other vehicles, sustained injuries and were rushed to Ynares Hospital for treatment.

Authorities said all vehicles sustained damage, but the total cost has yet to be determined.

The truck driver is now under police custody.
