Officials pray for victims of building collapse in Angeles City
Officials on Tuesday visited the site of the building collapse in Barangay Balibago, Angeles City, Pampanga.
Pampanga Gov. Lilia “Nanay” Pineda and Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II, with other officials and responders, offered prayers and condoled with families of the victims.
Officials assured continuous coordination between the local and provincial governments for assistance to victims.
Among these are financial and psychosocial support and interventions from concerned agencies.
The Office of Civil Defense earlier announced that search-and-rescue efforts for the building in have now shifted to search-and-retrieval mode.
"SAR operations have ended effective 8:27 p.m. May 25, 2026 and transitioned to search-and- retrieval operations," OCD deputy spokesperson Diego Agustin Mariano said.
The Bureau of Fire Protection, Angeles City local government unit, and Incident Command Post indicated that no more signs of life were detected as of 3 p.m. Monday, he added. "Yun mga (the) life detectors, K-9s walang nang makuhang response (were unable to get a response)," Mariano said.
The nine-story structure under construction on Teodoro St. collapsed before dawn on Sunday, triggering a massive emergency response from rescue units in Central Luzon.
Forty-seven individuals were affected by the incident, of which 27 were rescued, 16 are either reported missing, unaccounted, or trapped, and four have been reported dead.
Mariano said the casualties were still "for validation" as of posting time. (with PNA)
