TACLOBAN CITY – A 40-year-old man was shot after he assaulted a police officer in Barangay Busay, Barugo, Leyte, on Monday.
Investigation said that the lawman with the rank of corporal who also lives in Barugo was on his way home when the suspect Reo appeared with a gun on his hand.
Reo accused the police officer of targeting him and fired at the lawman. The policeman took cover behind a post and returned fire and wounded the suspect in the left arm.
The police officer, who was unharmed, called the Barugo Municipal Police Station (MPS) for assistance and requested an ambulance to transport the wounded suspect to the hospital.
Recovered from the area were two firearms and an extra magazine allegedly owned by the suspect.
Reo was arrested and convicted for a drug-related case in 2019 and was apprehended for alarm and sandal in relation to Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) this year but was released on bail.
The suspect was listed and monitored as a drug personality in the area.
