Bacolodnons urged to report crime incidents directly to 911 hotline instead of social media

BACOLOD CITY – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) urged residents of this highly urbanized city to report crimes directly to the 911 emergency hotline for fast response, instead of posting these incidents first on social media.
Capt. Dax Santillan, BCPO public information officer, said on Tuesday that by dialing 911, the nearest police station can respond immediately after the operator informs the Philippine National Police (PNP) of the call for assistance.
“This is to address concerns where people tend to post the incident on social media rather than reporting it immediately through 911,” he added.
Santillan said that through the 911 emergency hotline, the BCPO hopes to address the gap in police response.
With quick police action, the suspect or suspects can be arrested during the pursuit operation, he added.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) campaigns for the use of dial 911 to get quick police response in support of the SAFE NIR program introduced by PRO-NIR Director Police Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño.
SAFE stands for Seen, Appreciated, Felt, and Extraordinary, which is aligned with the PNP Focused Agenda anchored on the vision of "Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.”
Meanwhile, the PRO-NIR kicked off on Monday two enhancement seminars for police personnel in Camp Alfredo M. Montelibano Sr. here.
Fifty participants are taking part in the 15-day Revitalized Pulis sa Barangay Training to strengthen community-based policing and foster safer, more resilient communities in Negros Island and Siquijor.
“This aims to further enhance the capabilities of police personnel in community immersion, partnership-building, conflict resolution, crime prevention initiatives, and responsive public service,” it said.
Participants will be equipped with updated strategies and practical approaches in addressing peace and order concerns at the barangay level while strengthening collaboration among law enforcement agencies, local government units, and community stakeholders.
Also, 50 crime registrars from various police units are attending a five-day investigation solutions seminar to boost the PRO-NIR’s crime analysis and case management systems.
The activity focuses on the enhancement of investigative capabilities through the use of modern information technology systems designed to improve crime analysis, case management, and overall investigative efficiency. (PNA)
