SHABU worth P136 million seized from two men in Naga City, Cebu. (PDEA-7)
CEBU CITY – Packs of suspected shabu worth P136 million were seized from two men in a buy-bust operation in Naga City, southern Cebu on Saturday afternoon, May 23.
Agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Central Visayas (PDEA-7) cornered Romy, 57, and Dante, 47, in Barangay Uling.
PDEA-7 Director Joel Plaza said the seized illegal drugs weighed 20 kilos. Plaza said it took more than a month of case buildup before the suspects were cornered.
The PDEA-7 said that based on their monitoring, the suspects were selling 30 kilos of shabu a month with the whole province of Cebu and highly urbanized cities as their areas of distribution.
Romy is a native of Leyte but lived in Toledo City, Cebu as his wife lives there. Dante is from Zamboaga, the PDEA-7 said.
The two men were placed under close monitoring after the PDEA-7 was informed that they were allegedly involved in transporting large supplies of shabu from the National Capital Region.
During the arrest, the suspects admitted that they came from Luzon and transported 20 large packs of shabu by land to Cebu.
Prior to the arrest, a poseur-buyer transacted with the suspects. During the transaction, the suspects agreed to sell one kilo of shabu.
The suspects agreed to meet the poseur-buyer in Naga where they were eventually arrested after they handed over a kilo of shabu, the PDEA-7 said.
PDEA-7 agents inspected the suspects' vehicle and found 19 big packs believed to contain shabu. Each pack weighed around one kilo.
Romy said someone hired them to deliver the contraband. He said they were paid P130,000 for the delivery.
The PDEA-7 said the suspects were charged for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
