New PMA cadets to embark on full 4-year modern warfare curriculum

BAGUIO CITY – The Philippine Military Academy (PMA) received 367 new cadets for Class 2030, the first batch to take up the enhanced Bachelor of Science in Management major in Security Studies curriculum, which includes principles of modern warfare.
“There are 290 male and 77 female cadets who joined the reception ceremonies over the weekend, the cadets’ first day in the four years of military studies that will prepare them to become officers of the three branches of services of the Armed Forces of the Philippines," Lt. Commander Jesse Nestor Saludo, head of the academy’s Office of Public Affairs, said in a message on Monday.
The cadets will be introduced to micro-credential courses in artificial intelligence, data analytics, electronic and hybrid warfare, and unmanned systems.
The academy started the implementation of the new curriculum in 2025, following the order of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during that year's graduation ceremonies to ensure that the cadets’ curriculum is modern warfare-ready.
It added that the cadets, upon graduation, are knowledgeable of the current trends, equipment, analytics, and decision-making required by the current demand of modern warfare.
Last weekend's reception marked the start of the transformation of the plebes from civilian life into members of the Cadet Corps Armed Forces of the Philippines New Cadet Battalion.
“The Reception Rites marks a life-changing milestone – it marks the official beginning of your military career. This is not merely a ceremonial event, rather, it signifies your transition from a carefree civilian life into the disciplined, demanding, and regimented life of a cadet," Brig. Gen. Nelson Alaud, Commandant of Cadets, said in a news release.
Meanwhile, PMA Superintendent Vice Admiral Caesar Bernard Valencia highlighted the academy’s thrusts in ensuring a responsive training amid the evolving security landscape.
“The academy is aggressively undertaking initiatives to enhance our academic and military curriculum, elevating it to be at par with the highest international standards. They will be trained not just in the classic arts of war, but in critical and systems thinking, cybersecurity, international defense, and strategic leadership," he added.
Valencia also assured that the academy will provide the cadets "with the best education and training the nation can offer" to ensure they are fully equipped to protect the country when they graduate.
The new cadets will complete the Bachelor of Science in Management major in Security Studies curriculum designed to equip cadets with competencies relevant to territorial defense and the evolving operational environment, while developing the knowledge and skills essential for future officers of the AFP.
