A 45-year-old motorcycle rider on his way to a relative's wake was killed in a collision in Barangay Blumentritt, Murcia, Negros Occidental on Sunday, May 24.
Police identified the fatality as Reynaldo, a resident of Purok Sunrise, Barangay Blumentritt.
Police Capt. Honey Labaro, Murcia police chief, said the victim was about to enter the highway from a subdivision when he was hit by another motorcycle driven by a 23-year-old utility worker from Barangay Mansilingan here. Labaro said the utility worker may have not noticed the victim.
The victim was thrown to the opposite direction and was ran over by the left rear tire of a truck driven by a 40-year-old resident of Cebu. Labaro said the victim succumbed to head injuries while the utility worker sustained minor injuries.
All parties involved had initial discussions. There is no final decision yet from the victim's family if they will press charges.
The utility worker and the truck driver will be released from police custody after the lapse of the 18-hour reglementary detention if no charges will be filed against them, Labaro said.
