BACOLOD CITY – The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) paid tribute to the late Police Lt. Col. Romeo Vargas who was found dead in his residence in Barangay Handumanan here on May 19.
Police Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño, PRO-NIR director, visited the wake of Vargas at the Bacolod City Police Office Chapel in Barangay Singcang-Airport here to condole with his family.
The PRO-NIR mourned the death of Vargas and honored his memory as a dedicated public servant who served with dignity and honor.
Cardiño paid tribute to the late officer’s years of dedicated public service, highlighting his professionalism, strong sense of duty, and unwavering commitment to the mission of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
He recognized Vargas as a valued member of the organization whose contributions helped strengthen administrative and operational support within his unit.
The PRO-NIR said that Vargas was remembered by his peers as a disciplined, reliable, and hardworking officer who consistently performed his duties with integrity, humility, and quiet dedication.
His legacy reflects a life of service marked by commitment and respect for the responsibilities entrusted to him, the PRO-NIR said.
Vargas was found dead by his daughter with a bullet wound in the head. Police are investigating the circumstances of his death.
He was last assigned as chief of the City Administrative and Resource Management Unit at the BCPO. He was set to retire this year.
