Athletes, who will bag medals at the Palarong Pambansa, will receive incentives from the Philippine Sports Commission, President Marcos announced.
Marcos made the announcement in his video message during the opening ceremony of the Palarong Pambansa in Agusandel del Sur on Sunday, May 24.
"Masaya akong ibalita sa inyo, sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon, maglalaan ang Philippine Sports Commission ng mga incentive para sa mga medalista sa regular sports at paragames bilang pagkilala sa inyong husay (I am happy to share with you that, for the very first time, the Philippine Sports Commission will provide incentives for medalists in regular sports and paragames in recognition of your excellence)," Marcos said.
He recognized the athletes for representing their schools and regions, stressing that they do not just carry with them the name of their school and region, but the dreams and inspiration of their fellow young athletes.
"Kaya para sa inyo at sa iba pang batang atleta, patuloy ang pamahalaan sa pagsuporta sa inyong pagsasanay sa larangan ng palakasan (That is why, for you and for all young athletes, the government continues to support your training in the field of sports)," Marcos said.
The President also encouraged the athletes to enjoy the games while doing their best.
He told them that they will gain many things from the games that they can carry wherever they go.
"Alam ko na gagawin ninyo ang lahat ng inyong makakaya, ngunit huwag ninyong kalimutan, mag-enjoy na rin. Marami kayong matutuhan sa Palarong ito na madadala ninyo kahit saan man kayo magpunta. Dito ninyo matututunan ang disiplina, tiyaga, respeto, at malasakit sa kapwa (I know that you will all do your very best, but do not forget to enjoy yourselves as well. You will learn many things from these games that you can carry with you wherever you go. Here, you will learn discipline, perseverance, respect, and compassion for others)," he said.
Compete with honor, respect
In his speech delivered by Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdmeo, Marcos reminded the athletes to compete with honor and respect.
"Lumaban nang may dangal at igalang ang kapwa ninyong atleta (Compete with honor and respect your fellow athletes)," Marcos said.
Marcos encouraged those who will win their respective sports events to carry their medals with humility, and told those who will not be successful in the Palaro not to lose hope, stressing that defeat is not the end but a step towards improvement.
"Sa mga mananalo, nawa’y dalhin ninyo ang medalya nang may kababaang-loob. Maging inspirasyon ninyo ang pagkapanalo para sa mga susunod pang laban (To those who will win, may you carry your medals with humility. Let your victory inspire you for the challenges and competitions ahead)," the President said.
"Sa mga hindi mananalo sa Palarong ito, huwag kayong mawalan ng pag-asa. Ang bawat pagkatalo ay hindi wakas, kundi isang hakbang upang lalo pang tumatag, matuto, at magtagumpay (To those who may not win in the Games, do not lose hope. Every defeat is not the end, but a step toward becoming stronger, learning more, and achieving success)," he added.
The Chief Executive further assured young athletes that the government will support them, together with their parents, loved ones, teachers, and coaches.
