Based on the police investigation, the incident occurred around 12 a.m. along Santisimo Street in Manotoc Subdivision, Barangay Sto. Niño, where a 22-year-old victim was robbed of his Yamaha Mio Aerox motorcycle by four armed men riding two motorcycles.
On Sunday, Marikina police said one of the four suspects was arrested in Quezon City in connection with a carnapping incident and was later identified by the victim.
“Follow-up operations and coordination with adjacent police units are ongoing for the identification and arrest of the remaining suspects,” they said.
Authorities added that charges for violation of Republic Act 10883 or the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016 have already been filed against the identified suspect before the Marikina City Prosecutor’s Office on May 22.
“The Marikina CPS assures the public of its continued commitment to maintaining peace and order and bringing all persons involved to justice,” they vowed.
Meanwhile, the Marikina CPS appealed to the public to act responsibly, exercise consideration, and respect the privacy of individuals involved in the incident and to refrain from posting, uploading, or sharing any footage or videos they are not directly involved in.
The police also urged the public to report such incidents immediately to the proper authorities.
“Let us continue to remain vigilant and to immediately provide information that may help prevent and solve crimes. Community participation is indispensable. Your cooperation is vital, as law enforcement authorities cannot be everywhere at all times. Prompt reporting of potential or actual crimes greatly assists us in carrying out our duties effectively,” it emphasized.
