Parañaque's financial aid brings hope to ailing residents
Mayor Edwin Olivarez
A total of 25 beneficiaries of Parañaque’s Social Amelioration Program (PSAP) received financial assistance from the city government on May 20, easing the burden of residents facing medical and financial hardships.
Mayor Edwin Olivarez announced that each recipient was granted ₱10,000 to help cover hospitalization and medicine expenses.
He explained that the aid distribution under PSAP is conducted quarterly to reach more residents in need.
The program aims to provide immediate relief to indigent families struggling with health-related costs, especially those undergoing major medical procedures or long-term treatment.
Among the beneficiaries was Maria Asuncion Sobeda, who has long carried the weight of illness alongside the constant worry of paying for medicines and hospital bills.
Diagnosed with a right frontal brain meningioma, Sobeda had been seeking financial assistance since 2023 as she prepared for treatment at the Philippine General Hospital. With mounting medical expenses, every hospital visit became a struggle for her family.
Relief finally came when she was included among the 25 recipients of the city’s Social Amelioration Program.
Sobeda expressed gratitude to Mayor Olivarez for sustaining the initiative, saying the assistance would help her prepare for her upcoming medical treatment.
For beneficiaries like Sobeda, the ₱10,000 aid represents more than financial support -- it is a lifeline of hope and reassurance that, despite their hardships, they are not facing their battles alone.
