BACOLOD CITY – A 38-year-old woman was found dead after she went missing in Sitio Capayas, Barangay Sicaba, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Friday, May 22.
Police withheld the name of the victim.
Police Lt. Daleen Grace Loreno, deputy chief of the Cadiz City Police Station, said the victim was waiting for her husband in a waiting shed to return from a gasoline station before going to a lending firm.
Her husband returned to pick her up but she was not there, prompting him to proceed to the lending firm.
However, she was not at the office. He returned to the area and found her in a grassy vacant lot near the waiting shed.
Loreno said the victim was half-naked, sustained an eye injury from being hit by a young coconut, and her sling bag was used to strangle her in the neck. The victim’s P150 in her wallet was missing.
She added that victim died of asphyxia by strangulation.
Loreno said the victim was dragged from the waiting shed to the area.
Police said the suspect may have learned about the victim’s plan to go to a lending firm and assumed that she already had the money when he saw her.
Police have a person of interest who was placed under their custody for his safety from the victim’s angry neighbors.
Loreno are appealing for witnesses to confirm the identity of the suspect and determine if there were other persons involved as a cigarette butt and a black T-shirt were recovered from the crime scene.
