DPWH starts work on collapsed section of Baguio-Bontoc Road

The rehabilitation of the collapsed section of the Baguio-Bontoc Road in Barangay Caliking, Atok, Benguet has begun.

In a statement Saturday, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported that the thoroughfare has been a one-lane road with a stop-and-go traffic scheme for almost a year.

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon has instructed the DPWH-Cordillera region to install early warning devices for the safety of motorists and commuters during the repair period.

The road section was damaged by successive typhoons in July 2025.

Earlier, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the DPWH to immediately repair the damaged road to ease the travel of motorists who have long endured the area’s congested and dangerous roads.

The Baguio-Bontoc Road is among the major routes going to Baguio City, the country’s summer capital. (PNA)
