Binondo fire escalates to Task Force Charlie, hundreds of homes affected
A massive fire that broke out in a residential area at Parola Compound near Gate 46 in Delpan, Binondo, Manila, on Saturday, May 23, has escalated to Task Force Charlie as of 5:19 p.m., as firefighters struggle to contain the rapidly spreading blaze.
According to the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (MDRRMD), the fire was first reported at around 3:03 p.m. and quickly escalated through multiple alarm levels, reaching the second alarm at 3:05 p.m., the third alarm at 3:10 p.m., the fourth alarm at 3:21 p.m., and the fifth alarm at 3:53 p.m.
Initial reports indicate that hundreds of houses have been affected as the fire tore through closely built homes in the densely populated community.
Firefighters and emergency response teams remain on the ground conducting operations to prevent further spread of the fire.
Authorities have yet to release official information on casualties, injuries, or the total number of families displaced.
The public is advised to avoid the affected area to allow responding units to operate and ensure their safety.
