LA PAZ, Leyte – A former pedicab driver thanked the police for building him a new house in Barangay Cagngaran here.
Michael Maden, 47, who has been unable to walk for over nine years, is the recipient of a house built by the La Paz Municipal Police Station (MPS) with support from the local government unit.
Maden also suffers from blurred vision, a condition that further prevents him from working.
He lives with his wife and son but they had to move because they did not own the land where their house stood.
Police said they contributed funds and materials to construct the new house.
Police Lt. Achilles Amargo, La Paz police chief, said the project highlights the strong partnership between the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the LGU, rooted in compassion, unity, and genuine public service to the community.
He added that through the joint efforts of PNP personnel, LGU officials, and volunteers, the beneficiary received hope and support in the form of a safe and decent shelter.
“This initiative reflects the ongoing commitment of the PNP and LGU to improve the lives of vulnerable community members, as well as strengthen the spirit of ‘bayanihan’ (community spirit) among the people of La Paz,” he said.
