President Marcos has declared Wednesday, May 27, 2026, a regular holiday across the country in observance of Eid’l Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice.
The proclamation follows Republic Act (RA) No. 9849, which recognizes the 10th day of Zhul Hijja, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar, as a national holiday with a movable date.
Based on the 1447 Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos recommended May 27 as the date of observance this year.
In Proclamation No. 1264, released on Thursday, May 21, Marcos stated: “Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice is one of the two greatest feasts of Islam.”
“I…do hereby declare Wednesday, 27 May 2026, a regular holiday throughout the country, in observance of Eid’l Adha,” he added.
Eid’l Adha holds deep meaning in the Philippines, where millions of Muslims commemorate the feast through prayers, family gatherings, and acts of charity. It symbolizes obedience, sacrifice, and compassion, values that resonate strongly within Muslim communities across Mindanao and other regions.
The observance also underscores the country’s recognition of cultural and religious diversity, as the holiday allows Muslim Filipinos nationwide to fully participate in one of their most sacred traditions. (Ellson Quismorio)
