Sen. Panfilo "Ping" M. Lacson on Friday, May 22, dismissed as outright lies the claims of Sen. Maria Imelda Josefa Remedios "Imee" Marcos about a supposed attempt to take control of the Senate leadership to pave the way for constitutional amendments to extend the terms of top government officials.

Lacson, now a member of the minority bloc in the Senate, said he has never heard of such “a tale” saying such issue was never take up during their caucuses.
“Flat lies, outright lies. Kasinungalingan (lies). Walang pag-uusap kami maski mga caucuses namin (We never discussed that even during our caucuses),” Lacson said in an televised interview.
“Napakalimit naming mag-caucus sa minority never yan napagusapan never yan nabanggit ang con-ass. Kung may planong mag-con-ass di namin alam yan. Kung meron man at kung meron kaming narinig di namin alam kung anong end take na gusto nilang makita (We meet frequently but never talk about it. Whoever cooked up that tale, we don't know what they are trying to get at),” he further said.
“Hindi ko alam anong pinanggagalingan ng kanilang pananalita. Kung meron silang matibay na basehan bahala sila (I don't know where those tales came from. If those who are spinning those stories have proof, then it's up to them),” he added.
Nevertheless, Lacson, said that as far as the “Mythical 11” –the nickname of the minority bloc—is concerned, its priority is to find ways to restore the Senate's reputation and dignity.
Should the minority get the needed numbers to take back leadership of the Senate, it would seek to improve the public perception of the Upper Chamber, he said.
"We love the Senate. Lahat kami nagkakaisa, Ibangon natin ang Senado first and foremost sa paningin ng ating mga kababayan. Kalimutan ang iba-ibang issues, attendant sa pagpalit liderato (We love the Senate. All of us are united on this - we must resurrect the Senate's image. Forget all other issues regarding leadership changes for now),” the former Senate President pro tempore said.
“Sa amin ang primordial concern namin ang integrity ng Senate (on our end, our primordial concern is the integrity of the Senate),” he stressed.
Earlier, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos’s sister said the alleged attempt to arrest Sen. Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa was only part of a broader political effort to wrest control of the Senate leadership and pave the way for constitutional amendments that could extend the terms of top government officials, including the President.
Imee Marcos alleged that certain political groups were seeking to change the Senate leadership because “there was so much at stake,” including a supposed plan to push for constitutional amendments through a constituent assembly or con-ass.
