Pasig establishes PLP School of Law led by ex-ICC judge
The local government of Pasig, together with the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig (PLP), formally established the PLP School of Law on Wednesday, May 20, appointing a former judge of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague as its founding dean.
PLP said its School of Law will be built on principles of integrity, public service, good governance, and transformative justice.
During the meeting of the PLP Board of Regents on Wednesday, Atty. Raul C. Pangalangan formally accepted the invitation of Mayor and PLP Board of Regents Chair Vico Sotto to serve as the founding dean of the PLP School of Law.
Pangalangan is a former judge of the ICC in The Hague and a former dean of the University of the Philippines College of Law. He has also been a Pasigueño since the 1960s.
In his message, he expressed hope that he could help establish a law school that would serve as a “beacon of hope” amid the challenges faced by the country.
He will be joined in leading the School of Law by Atty. Peter John U. Javier as the incoming vice dean for academics and Atty. Josephine C. Lati-Bagaoisan, chair of the Technical Working Group for the establishment of the School of Law, who will serve as acting vice dean for administration.
“Kapwa taal na Pasigueño sina Atty. Javier at Atty. Lati-Bagaoisan, ipinanganak, lumaki, at hinubog ng Pasig. Ito ay isang mahalagang patunay na ang pangarap na ito ay tunay na nagmumula at nakaugat sa komunidad na nais nitong paglingkuran (Both Atty. Javier and Atty. Lati-Bagaoisan are native Pasigueños, born, raised, and shaped by the city—underscoring that this initiative is deeply rooted in the community it seeks to serve),” PLP said.
The PLP School of Law aims to provide deserving students, especially Pasigueños and those from underprivileged families, the opportunity to study law and become lawyers grounded in compassion, integrity, and public service.
