Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson on Thursday, May 21 expressed "double relief" after a new senator has been named as the new chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.
Earlier, the Senate elected Sen. Pilar Juliana “Pia” Cayetano as the new blue ribbon panel chairperson, a week after her brother was elected as Senate President.
“Double relief. I feel relieved that I am now relieved of my duties as the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairman,” Lacson said in a post on his X account.

Nevertheless, Lacson said the leadership change in the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee do not mean that he will ease up in his efforts to fight corruption.
Lacson stressed this after Sen. Pilar Juliana "Pia" Cayetano was named as the new Blue Ribbon panel chairperson, a week after a leadership change in the Senate.
"Double relief. I feel relieved that I am now relieved of my duties as the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairman," he said in a post on his X account.
Lacson, who chaired the panel's probe into the anomalous flood control projects, had pointed out that all chairpersons of the Senate committees are elected by their peers and thus, serve at the pleasure of their colleagues.
Nevertheless, the senator, who earlier released the panel’s chairman’s progress report on the flood control scandal, said vacating the blue ribbon panel will not diminish his advocacy against corruption.
“I will continue to fight a corrupt and rotten system in the misuse and abuse of public funds as I have consistently done in the course of my long years in public service,” he said.
