Zamboanga City mayor bans poultry products due to bird flu outbreak

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Mayor Khymer Olaso here has banned the entry of poultry products from nearby municipalities due to a bird flu outbreak in these areas.
Olaso issued an executive order on Tuesday, May 19, temporarily banning poultry and livestock products from the municipalities of Diplahan, Imelda, and Buug in Zamboanga Sibugay province. The ban took effect immediately.
The Bureau of Animal Industry said that three farms in Diplahan have been affected by bird flu.
Border personnel from the Office of the City Veterinarian and other concerned offices were instructed to strictly monitor all entry points here to ensure that the order is being followed.
The Ocvet was also ordered to enforce biosecurity protocols and verify documents of incoming poultry and livestock products to prevent the spread of the virus here.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, City Health Office, security forces, and barangays located along borders were instructed to assist Ocvet.
