Senator Pia Cayetano was elected on Wednesday, May 20, as the new chairperson of the powerful Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.

Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson, who was the panel's previous chair, has yet to conclude the panel's investigation into the anomalous flood control scandal in the country.
Cayetano was elected on Jan. 22, 2024, as the first woman Blue Ribbon panel chair.
In 2024, Cayetano stated that combating the country’s problem with the proliferation of fake government documents and exposing lapses in the regulation of tobacco products were among the panel's accomplishments.
In that year, Cayetano said they uncovered systemic fraud involving fake birth certificates, passports, and other government-issued documents that were illegally used by foreign nationals.
Meanwhile, Senator Imee Marcos once again gets chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, previously held by Senator Erwin Tulfo.
Senator Camille Villar retains chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change.
She will also head the Senate Committee on Government Corporations and Public Enterprises.
Senator Robinhood Padilla will also once more chair the Senate Committee on Constitutional Amendments and Revision of Codes.
