From July 1, 2022 to April 30, 2026, the K9 teams of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) were part in 546 anti-drug operations, resulting to the arrest of 221 alleged drug personalities and confiscation of nearly 2.5 tons of shabu, 44,233 ecstasy tablets, 71,749 grams of cocaine and over two tons of marijuana.
PDEA Director General Isagani R. Nerez stated that “precision, discipline and trust define every K9 team we deploy,’’ describing them as force multipliers in the field.
He pointed out that the PDEA K9 units are sniffing their way to the concealed illegal drugs from airports to seaports, from checkpoints to cargo and baggage inspections and across every monitoring and search-and-seizure operation.
“Our K9s are silent operators with unmatched accuracy. One sniff can mean one less drug shipment reaching our streets. They give us reach, speed, and precision – strengths we will continue to build on,” Nerez stated.
The PDEA K9 Unit is based in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, where it operates a fully equipped facility with an in-house veterinary clinic, strict health protocols, kennel inspections, and a breeding program to sustain a steady supply of trained drug-sniffing dogs.
Since the start of the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Nerez noted that the government has intensified its anti-drug efforts under the “Bagong Pilipinas” agenda, resulting in sustained large-scale seizures nationwide.
