The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved the inclusion of a total of 141,724 units of passenger jeepneys and UV Express in the list of beneficiaries for the P10 per liter discount fuel subsidy program.
LTFRB Chairman Vigor D. Mendoza II said all the details of the jeepney and UV Express units, especially the license plates, were already uploaded to a system that will be used for the verification process of the participating gas stations.
More than 4,200 gas stations were tapped for the fuel subsidy program, as the Department of Energy announced that the P10/L discount is now being implemented nationwide after a successful dry-run in Metro Manila.
“This is proof that the government is still really taking care of the PUV sector despite the improvement of the prices of petroleum products. This will not only benefit the drivers and operators but also the commuters as well,” said Mendoza.
The program will initially cover jeepneys and UV Express and will later expand to other public utility vehicles.
Mendoza said the 141,724 units of passenger jeepneys and UV Express covers all regions and was based on the database of the qualified beneficiaries of the LTFRB.
He said a total of 12,688 of them have so far registered successful transactions.
Based on the approved guideline, participating gas stations in Metro Manila and soon nationwide will be connected to the database of the national government through a mobile app that will list the qualified beneficiaries of the program.
Only PUVs with existing and valid franchises will be included in the database for a 150-liter ceiling every week for each of the PUV units.
Once the license plate was confirmed to be enrolled in the program, the discount will automatically apply which means that the driver will just pay the discounted price per visit to the gas station.
In the same guideline, the LTFRB was tasked to maintain custody and control of the budget allocated for the Fuel Subsidy Program.
The LTFRB was also tasked to allocate and transfer the necessary funds to the Land Bank of the Philippines for the administration, processing, settlement, and crediting of fuel subsidy amounts to accredited gasoline stations participating in the Fuel Discount System.
Mendoza committed to monitor and conduct immediate intervention to ensure smooth implementation of the P10/liter discount subsidy.
Aside from the discount, President Marcos earlier approved the P5,000 fuel subsidy for PUV drivers and operators. Service contracting program was also expanded to maximize the assistance to the commuters.
