Resigned 1TAHANAN Party-list Rep. Nathaniel Oducado (Facebook)
Erstwhile 1TAHANAN Party-list Rep. Nathaniel Oducado took to his Facebook on Tuesday, May 19 to share the reason behind his resignation as congressman.
It all boiled down to two words: health, family.
"I have always believed that public service is a privilege, not a permanent station to which one is entitled to. There comes a time when one must recognize that serving well also means knowing when to step aside and that it is wrong, even selfish, to cling to a position. That time has come for me," Oducado wrote.
"For personal reasons, chief among them my health and my family, I formally tendered my resignation from Congress. These are not small things. They are, in truth, the most important things, and they deserve my full attention," he said
He did not elaborate as far as his reasons were concerned.
Oducado's resignation, along with that of PINOY WORKERS Party-list Rep. Franz Vincent Legazpi, was announced during plenary session Monday night at the House of Representatives.
The resignations came a week after the House members overwhelmingly voted to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte via nominal vote result of 257-25-9 (yes-no-abstain). Both voted in the affirmative.
"I leave with full confidence that the advocacies of the party-list will not end with my departure. I trust that whoever takes my place will carry forward the same commitment that brought 1Tahanan to Congress in the first place," said Oducado, who was part of the majority bloc during his enure.
"I hope that in these less than 10 months, we were able to show that it is possible for an ordinary person to serve and to lead with integrity. That public office does not require extraordinary connections or extraordinary wealth, only extraordinary dedication," he added.
Oducado also expressed heartfelt appreciation to the supporters of the party-list.
"To our supporters - those who believed in us from the very beginning, when we were 10th from the bottom - thank you. You made this possible. What we accomplished together is a testament to what ordinary people can do when they refuse to give up," he said.
"To my staff, who worked tirelessly and with so much heart, thank you," he added.
